Port Isabel Recycling Center Opening & Dedication

\”>\” border=\”0\” alt=\”\” width=\”320\” height=\”196\” />

The City of Port Isabel, along with the Point Isabel Independent School District and the Valley Proud Environmental Council, are proud to present Port Isabel’s Recycling Center Opening and Dedication. Scheduled for Saturday, November 14th from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, the Opening and Dedication are held in conjunction with Texas Recycle Days, and will feature the “Kick off” of Point Isabel Independent School District Recycling Program. The Port Isabel Recycling Center located at 217 E. Hickman St.

With the importance of protecting our environment foremost in mind, the City of Port Isabel created the first permanent recycling center in the Laguna Madre Area. Starting with a single bin, the popularity of its use by residents bringing cardboard, paper and plastic resulted in the need to expand the City’s Recycling Center. With the assistance and support of Mayor Joe Vega and the City Commissioners, the Port Isabel Economic Development Corporation, the City’s Beautification Committee, and the City’s Public Works Department, additional bins, a concrete base, an informational kiosk and landscaping were added. The Recycling Center accepts plastic and aluminum, paper and cardboard. The Center is open Monday thru Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

As part of the festivities,
a kick off announcement will be made about the Valley Proud Environmental Council’s recycling pilot program with the Point Isabel Independent School District which was recently funded by the Texas General Land Office. Classes will collect paper and place in recycle bins located in each classroom, which will then be taken to bins located in each school cafeteria or other designated location. These bins will be picked up by City Public Works employees and emptied at the Recycling Center. This process will help the schools recycle. Valley Proud will purchase the containers and oversee the project.

Part of the festivities will include an appearance by Captain Crab, music by Lupita Gonzlez, the Derry Choir and Hands on activities by Girl Scout Troop 377. For more information, call the City Secretary at (956) 943-2682.
The Recycling Center accepts plastic and aluminum, paper and cardboard. The Center is open Monday thru Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
