The Port Isabel Public Library is proud to present the Winter Arts “Kamp for Kids” program at the library. In partnership with the El Paseo Arts Foundation an arts program will be held in December when the local public school is closed for the holiday season. Children will be able to explore their creative juices under the tutelage of art director Loretta Ponder. All art materials will be provided free; children need only bring a smock.
Due to space limitations the library can only accommodate 20 children per session, and enrollment will be done on a first come, first serve basis once registration begins.
Registration: Mon., Dec. 13 – Fri., Dec. 17 (register at the library or reading room)
Program Dates: Sat., Dec. 18, & Mon., Dec. 20 – Wed., Dec. 22 from 9:30 A.M. – 11:30 A.M., for children under 11 years old.
Tues., Dec. 28 – Thurs., Dec. 30 from 10:00 A.M. – 12:30 P.M. for children 11 and older.

The scenic beauty of the Rio Grande Valley will be on display in the Community Gallery in the Treasures of the Gulf Museum from November 17, 2009, through January 2, 2010. The exhibition will be titled “Terra Incognita”. Local artist Carol Plumb will be exhibiting some of her newest works during this holiday season including slightly abstract landscape paintings of South Padre Island, Boca Chica Beach, Mesquital Mexico, and the Bahia Grande region near Brownsville. Her depictions of the scenic beauty of the Rio Grande Valley area have been shown at Galleria 409 in Brownsville, Texas, and the international show at the Brownsville Museum of Fine Arts. Normal museum admission costs apply to the exhibition.
On December 2, 2009, the Museums of Port Isabel will host an open house so all visitors and art enthusiasts will be able to meet the artist of the Carola Art exhibit, Carol Plumb. The open house will run from 6:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. at the Treasures of the Gulf Museum. It will be free and open to the public with wine and hors d’oeuvres available.
