FREE T-SHIRTS TO THE FIRST 4,500 REGISTRANTS!

The Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce hosts this annual event which begins in Port Isabel and then follows a 10k route over the 2.6 mile Queen Isabella Memorial Bridge to South Padre Island. The Causeway Run-Walk is open to runners and walkers of all ages. For more information call the Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce at 956/943-2262.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

START: Causeway Run starts at 10:00 am sharp. Fitness Walk starts at 10:15 am sharp.

COST: Causeway Run $25.00. Fitness Walk $20.00. Students: $15.00 with school ID.

EARLY REGISTRATION: Before December 31, 2014, mail to Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce, 302 E. Queen Isabella Blvd., Ste. C, Port Isabel, TX 78578 or register in person until 5:00 pm Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015 at the Chamber office. Registration cannot be processed unless RUNNER or WALKER category is selected.

2015 LATE REGISTRATION IN PERSON: Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, 5:00 to 7:00 pm., Port Isabel Community Center, 213 Yturria St. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, 7:00 to 9:00 am, Port Isabel Community Center, 213 Yturria St. Cutoff time is 9:00 a.m. sharp. LATE FEE: Add $5.00 for runners only. No credit card use during late registration. NO REFUNDS.

T-SHIRT and BIB PICK-UP: Participants may check in at the Port Isabel Chamber office, Mon. – Thurs., the week of the event or on Friday, January 9, 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and Saturday, January 10, 7:00 to 9:00 am at the Port Isabel Community Center, 213 Yturria St. T-Shirts are guaranteed to the first 4,500 participants to check in. (Sizes cannot be guaranteed.) RUNNERS TIMING CHIPS WILL BE HANDED OUT ON FRIDAY & SATURDAY. All timing chips must be returned at the race finish line or a $15 replacement fee will be assessed.

RACE COURSE: 10K (6.2 mi.) Starts at the Port Isabel Community Center on Yturria St. Ends at the tented area, roadside, in front of Louie’s Backyard South Padre Island. One major incline. Water stations at the end of the Causeway, one other location, and at the end of the race. There will be police protection and EMS services. The run is USA Track and Field certified: Certification #TX05009WG. (See map on below)

FITNESS WALK COURSE: 3 miles. This course starts at Port Isabel Community Center, then right on Davis St., right on Musina St., left on Maxan St., right on Garcia St. and left on Highway 100. The finish line will be at the Padre Balli Statue on South Padre Island. Shuttle service will be available to the tented area in front of Louie’s Backyard to the runner’s awards ceremony or back to Port Isabel. THIS IS NOT A RACE. THIS IS A PARTICIPATION WALK. There will be no awards given to walk participants.  Shuttle service is also available starting at 8:00 am, Jan. 11, from Louie’s Backyard to the Port Isabel Community Center.

AWARDS & PRESENTATIONS: CASH AWARD TO OVERALL FIRST 3 PLACES BOTH MALE & FEMALE RUNNERS! $1000- 1st; $600- 2nd; $400- 3rd! Awards will be given to the overall male and female winners as well as to first through third place winners in each male and female age division of the 10K. Overall winners will be ineligible for awards in their respective age divisions. The awards will be presented at the awards ceremony immediately following the race and scoring. FREE refreshments will be available as supplies last. SHUTTLE SERVICE WILL BE AVAILABLE BACK TO PORT ISABEL FOR ALL RUNNERS & WALKERS.  YOU MUST BE WEARING A PICC Causeway Run & Fitness numbered bib or wrist band to use the shuttle bus back to Port Isabel Community Center.

Join the City of Port Isabel, Mayor Joe E. Vega and staff for the 6th Annual Community Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 5th, at 6 p.m., in Beulah Lee Park. The event is free to the public. Mr. & Mrs. Claus and their Elves will wrap up the night’s activities with goodie bags for all the children in attendance. Community and school groups will entertain with a variety of holiday themed performances. Vendors setting up all around the park will offer food and treats. 20121201_boat-parade-264CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER (see full story below) . On Saturday, December 7th, 6 p.m., the Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce hosts the 27th Annual Lighted Christmas Boat Parade. Decorated vessels of all sizes take to the waters of the Laguna Madre in this coastal tradition. Viewing areas can be found in several waterfront restaurants and piers and Pompano City Docks. The parade route begins in Port Isabel and ends at Louie’s Backyard on South Padre Island. Christmas Boat Parade Cancelled

Due to the arrival of a predicted artic cold front this weekend, the Board of Directors of the Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce has reluctantly cancelled their Annual Christmas Lighted Boat Parade.

“It is with sincere regret that the Board made this decision,” said Board Chairperson Cecelia Bliss, “but the weather forecast presented safety concerns for the boats participating. We discussed trying to reschedule the event, but the holiday season and conflicting activities made that impossible.”

The parade is a popular event with area residents, visitors and Winter Texans and thousands historically turn out to view the decorated vessels from the shores facing the Laguna Madre Bay. Instead, the Chamber says it hopes to plan a six week Winter Texan promotion with details to be announced.

2012-logoDecember 14th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Museums of Port Isabel hosts their Annual Open House. Both the Treasures of the Gulf Museum and the Port Isabel Historical Museum will offer discounts in their gift shops from 10 – 50%, free admission and refreshments. The Museum will also offer kid friendly activities during November and December. See schedule below. The Port Isabel Antique & Flea Market’s fall and winter schedule starts in November with the first and third Sundays of each month and runs through February. March through October, the Market reverts to a first Sunday of the month schedule. It is held on the grounds of the Buelah Lee Park from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Market is a favorite of both locals and Winter Texans. For more information call 956/455-6798.

The Santa Mobile rolls again! December 18 and 19th, the Santa Mobile will makes it way through all the neighborhoods in Port Isabel with Santa on board! Throughout the season, the City of Port Isabel Public Works decorates the Lighthouse and the median with hundreds of thousands of lights and in-house custom made Christmas and holiday props.

run-logo(250)With the approach of 2014, comes the 30th Annual Longest Causeway Run & Fitness Walk. Hosted by the Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce, the race starts at the Port Isabel Community Center, follows a route over the Queen Isabella Memorial Bridge and makes its way to Louie’s Backyard and the finish line. The 10k route offers something for both walkers and runners with the option to start at the base of the bridge in Port Isabel and ending on the South Padre Island where participants can catch a shuttle back to Port Isabel.
