The City of Port Isabel is excited to announce that they have received two grants totaling in the amount of $319,505.00, one from the Texas Department of Rural Affairs (TDRA) and the other from the U.S. Department of the Interior~Minerals Management Service Grant.
The Texas Department of Rural Affairs (TDRA) awarded $166,271.00 for the renovation of the existing Community Center which includes roof repair, new restrooms/showers, generator pod and electrical hook ups and interior repairs. These funds will renovate the existing Community Center to not only serve as a meeting place but also in case of an emergency serve as? an additional post-emergency shelter area.
The U.S. Department of the Interior ~ Minerals Management Service Grant Award awarded $153,234.00 for Derry Park. This grant is for Phase 1 of the Derry Park project which will consist of collecting topographic, hydrographic and geotechnical data, performing an alternatives analysis, submission and application to the US Army Corps of Engineers, and performing a preliminary engineering design of the preferred alternative. This grant will enable the City to have a shovel ready project to apply for other grants to complete the Derry Park project.
Both grants are for entire amount and no matching grants are required from the City Mayor Joe E. Vega stated, “I am very pleased with these grant awards! Receiving grants such as these increase the quality of life for our citizens and visitors alike and make our City a more safe and beautiful place to live and visit.”
