City issues update on appointment of new police chief

PRESS RELEASE August 3, 2016 For Immediate Release "City issues update on appointment of new police chief." PORT ISABEL, Texas The City of Port Isabel announced today that it had been informed by Mr. Tony David that he will not be able to assume the position he accepted as Police Chief due to personal obligations. Commenting on the developments, City Manager Jared Hockema stated: "While I am disappointed that Chief David will not be able to join us, I appreciate his candor in informing us that he would not be able to devote the proper attention to the position of Port Isabel Police Chief due to personal obligations that recently arose, which require him to travel out of the Valley. I have spoken to Chief Gonzalez, and has agreed to postpone his medical leave and stay on the job until a replacement can take office. The city will be advertising this position, and we will keep it open until filled. Chief Gonzalez's plan is still to retire in October, and he has already turned in his paperwork, so we will be working to have a transition before then."
