USDA Funding Announcement 5/19 3p

Mayor Joe E. Vega and the City Commissioners invite you to attend the USDA funding announcement for the Port Isabel Event Center at the Treasures of the Gulf Museum at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 19th. Port Isabel Mayor Joe E. Vega had these comments, "I would like to thank the USDA for providing the loan opportunity to build the new event Center and EOC (Emergency Command Center) for our great city of Port Isabel. Not only will this serve as a shelter during emergency situations, but will also serve as a place to gather to celebrate family gatherings such as birthday parties, weddings and quincenarias. This new event center will allow us more economic opportunities by bringing trade shows, conferences and cultural arts programs to the area and improving the quality of life for our citizens." Additionally, the USDA funding attracted the attention of USA Today which published an article in Wednesday addition on page 5A entitled, "Rural aid is helping more than farmers- Funds fill gaps in small town budgets", by Kevin Johnson. This excerpt about Port Isabel...
The largest aid recipient in the package, Port Isabel, was awarded a total of $26 million in loans for the construction of a jail and law enforcement complex, along with a visitor and community center.
