He was a man of greatness who was admired by many throughout the Laguna Madre area. He devoted his life to his family and public service. During his 36 years (1971-2007) on the bench, he presided over his court with exceptional skills and with the highest level of integrity and fairness.
He also served on numerous economic, public service organizations and educational entities, including School Board Member with the Point Isabel Independent School District for 33 years and the local Salvation Army for 30 years.
On hand for the dedication was Mayor Joe E. Vega, Judge Vega’s son, who welcomed the audience, an invocation was offered by Father Gerry Barrett of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church and the American Legion Post 498 and VFW Post 8791 led the pledge of allegiance.
Speakers included Mayor Joe E. Vega, Judge Bennie Ochoa III, Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr. and State Representative Rene Oliveira.
Following the ceremony, Father Gerry Barrett blessed the plaque.
