Press Release> 20101023pressRelease or see below. THE CITY OF PORT ISABEL LAUNCHES ANOTHER GREEN PROJECT! Today, the City of Port Isabel announced plans to launch another Green Project, a public/private partnership between the City of Port Isabel, International Renewable Energy Systems Inc. of Port Isabel and other contributing sponsors in the community. This Green Project is a one year pilot program, the goal of which is to help Port Isabel to reduce its energy costs to the public by utilizing newly emerging renewable energy resources, Mayor Joe E. Vega stated. The windspire will showcase the vision that the City of Port Isabel has of becoming a "Green" community. In addition to being a Green Initiatives Community and being the first community in the Laguna Madre to operate a permanent Recycling Center, the Windspire at Beaulah Lee Park will serve not only as an attraction but as an educational tool for our public especially our youth. This Green Project will begin with the installation of a vertical axis wind turbine, known as the Windspire at Beulah Lee Park, outside the Port Isabel Public Library. In addition to producing clean energy for the library, the wind turbine will also serve as an exciting educational tool for area schools as well as the general public. Plans include the ability for people to monitor and track the turbine's energy production on one of the library's computers. Manufactured in the USA by Windspire Energy, Inc. (www.windspireenergy.com) of Reno Nevada, the Windspire uses wind to produce electricity and is said to be one of the most attractive wind turbines made. It has been featured in The New York Times, Fortune Magazine, Popular Science, and on ABC's 20/20, CNN, and NPR. The unique design of its rotor, which operates at sound levels below the sound of wind, enables the Windspire to produce energy in virtual silence while harnessing the abundant wind in the area. Be-cause of its near silent performance and pleasant appearance, it works well in urban and suburban, as well as rural areas. This Green Project is made possible by donations from International Renewable Energy Systems, Inc. (www.internationalrenewableenergysystems.com) Woolverton Realty, Chalico Concrete Materials, il Tocco Modern Living, and Butch's A/C Electric all of Port Isabel Texas, as well as Ace Drilling of Harlingen Texas. These local companies have donated all materials, time and labor for this green project. This wonderful and exciting new Windspire can now be seen anytime by the public. Please feel free to join Mayor Joe Vega and all of the sponsors for this "Port Isabel Going Green Celebration" where the Windspire will be officially turned on at Beulah Lee Park next to the Port Isabel Public Library on Saturday October 23rd at 10am.
