The Museums of Port Isabel and the Laguna Madre Museum Foundation are proud to present its “Telling Our Stories” Series of 2019 on Thursday, September 26th, at the Treasures of the Gulf Museum, 308 Queen Isabella Blvd. @ 7pm. This month’s topic will be on “Our Historic Lighthouse” a presentation by Valerie Bates.

Valerie Bates is the Marketing Director of Port Isabel with an interest in local history. This presentation is part of the celebration of the transfer of the Lighthouse from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department to the Texas Historical Commission. Exciting new research will be presented.

Please join us for an entertaining evening with Valerie Bates with a presentation on “Our Historic Lighthouse”. All locals and visitors are welcomed to attend this free presentation. Complimentary drinks and hors d’oeuvres will be provided.

‘Telling Our Stories” is an educational program aimed to preserving the heritage of the City of Port Isabel and the Laguna Madre area. Our goals are to preserve and educate our local and natural history through presentations and exhibits. The program is co-sponsored by the Museums of Port Isabel and the Laguna Museum Foundation. “Telling Our Stories” is presented on the fourth (4Th) Thursday of each month from January through September at the Treasures of the Gulf Museum. Admission is FREE.

Snook Foundation holds meeting in Port Isabel

A group of like minded, focused anglers and board members of the Snook Foundation and the Port Isabel Chamber met at White Sands \” alt=\”\” width=\”420\” height=\”279\” />Restaurant on Friday, Marcy 6, for a meeting where Snook took presidence. Also in attendence were Danno Wise, local guide, writer and Snook Foundation Lower Laguna Madre Regional Director and Port Isabel Chamber Marketing Committee member; Calvin Byrd, Port Isabel Chamber Board Treasurer; Valerie Bates, Port Isabel Marketing Director and Betty Wells, Chamber Executive Director.  Aaron Reed, Snook Foundation Texas State Director led the discussion which included a variety of topics such as considerations for an October tournament focusing on Snook which will include species research. Board members of the Snook Foundation also attending included Rick Roberts, Executive Director and Kendal Larson, Director.

Other topics up for discussion were paddling trail projects in the Laguna Madre and Bahia Grande area and partnerships between the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department and the Snook Foundation and other groups interested in promoting the local Snook fishery and activities related to the Laguna Madre and the Bahia Grande.

The Snook Foundation Board is to be in communication with the Port Isabel Isabel Chamber of Commerce to finalize the planning of October Snook Tournament and will continue working together to identify and maximize the opportunities that the Snook species brings to the Laguna Madre area.

David Sikes, Corpus Christi Caller-Times Outdoor Writer, was also in attendance during Port Isabel March 6th Snook weekend events.
