Museums of Ports Isabel hosts Telling Our Stories 4/30

“The History of the Freemasons” presented by Warren Winger, Masonic Lodge Number 33, Friday, April 30th.

The Museums of Port Isabel and the Laguna Madre Museum Foundation are proud to present its “Telling Our Stories” Series of 2010 on Friday, April 30, at the Treasures of the Gulf Museum, 317 E. Railroad Ave. at 6:00 p.m. Warren Winger, of the Masonic Lodge Number 33 will present “The History of the Freemasons”. Mr. Winger has been a Mason for forty-one years and is credited as being one of the founding members for reviving Point Isabel Lodge 33 in December 2007. Lodge 33 was originally petitioned and granted in 1847, but never established until 2007. His presentation will grant the public insight into the Freemasons and their influential impact on Texas history.

An exhibition on the Freemasons will be on display in the Historic Champion Building till the end of the year.

Both Treasures of the Gulf Museum and the Port Isabel Historical Museum will be open for guests to tour during the evening. Drinks and Refreshments will be served. All locals and visitors are welcomed to attend. No admission fee. Open to the public.

Queen Isabella Market Day 4/10

\"\"The Museums of Port Isabel and the City of Port Isabel invite you to enjoy a day filled with live entertainment, vendors, food, family fun on the grounds of the Historic Port Isabel Lighthouse! Queen Isabella Market Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 10th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. T\"\"here is no admission charge to the event. Vendors offering collectibles, antiques, local art, jewelry and more will be lining the sidewalks around the lighthouse. A tent with tables and chairs near the live entertainment will offer the opportunity to sit down and relax while enjoying some tasty tamales, baked goods or other dishes local vendors and restaurants will be offering. Or just roll down the grassy hill of the lighthouse! Relax and let us entertain you during a family fun day in Port Isabel!

The Port Isabel Lighthouse will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and admission just $1.00 during Market Day. And plan to visit the Port Isabel Historical Museum and the Treasures of the Gulf Museum, just a short walk across Highway 100 where admission is also just $1.00 to each site.

Port Isabel Museums Hosts Telling Our Stories 3/25

“The Spanish Fleet of 1554 & The Antiquities Lock”

The Museums of Port Isabel and the Laguna Madre Museum Foundation are proud to present its “Telling Our Stories” Series of 2010 on Thursday, March 25, at the Treasures of the Gulf Museum, 317 E. Railroad Ave. at 6:00 p.m.

Steve Hathcock, a historian and lock smith, will present, “The Spanish Fleet of 1554 & The Antiquities Lock”.  Mr. Hathcock was a founding member of the Historical Foundation and is the Chairman with the South Padre Island Historical Preservation Board, and also serves as a board member with the Cameron County Historical Commission. He has written about South Texas history for the past 25 years, and along with his work, he has published three books and is working on a fourth.

The Museums of Port Isabel welcome all locals, visitors and Winter Texans to join us! Drinks and refreshments will be served. Open to the public. No admission fee.

13th Annual Museums of Port Isabel Fundraiser l Live Safe Opening

February 12th, 2010, at 7:00 p.m., the Museums will host its 13th Annual\"\" Fundraiser and the 13th could be your lucky number!

During this year fundraiser a Mexican Revolution era safe will be opened and the guess close enough to its contents will win a prize. Local merchants and the gift shops at both Museums will have ballots on hand for you to fill out and turn in by the 11th of February. Need not be present to win, no purchase necessary.

Day of the Dead, “Los Colores del Muerto” Celebration 10/31

The Museums of Port Isabel, in collaboration with the City of Port Isabel, the Port Isabel Economic Development Corporation, the Laguna Madre Art League, and the Laguna Madre Museum Foundation, is proud to present the 7th Annual “Los Colores del Muerto”, Day of the Dead Celebration.

On Saturday, October 31, 2009, the Museums of Port Isabel will host a full day of activities, all at no charge to the public, including Day of the Dead arts and crafts, food, exhibits, hands-on activities and live entertainment. The celebration is free and open to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Altar exhibit will remain on display through Saturday, November 14, 2009.

The Museums of Port Isabel is determined to preserve the heritage, culture and arts of the Laguna Madre area. The Los Colores del Muerto is an opportunity for both the community and the visitor to learn about and participate in an important part of our heritage. Self guided tours of the City of Port Isabel Cemetery are also available.
