The Big Read program has been hosted in the Rio Grande Valley and Mexico. It is designed to encourage young High School students to get away from their computers, televisions, and video games, and use their imagination through the power of reading. The Big Read Program has visited schools in Mexico including Reynosa, Matamoros and Valle Hermoso to encourage the young students to read more. Gabrielle Delacruz has done presentations in the Brownsville School Districts such as Porter, Pace, Hanna and Lopez. They have also visited the Harlingen Library and San Benito Speech Class.

As the largest literature program in the history of the U.S. government, created by the National Endowment for the Arts and in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and in cooperation with Arts, Midwest, The Big Read is designed to revitalize the role of reading in American culture and promote the transformative power of literature.
