The Santa Mobile Is Coming To Your Neighborhood!

On Wednesday, December 15, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. the City of Port Isabel will be sending a group of judges in a decorated, caroling Santa-Mobile throughout Port Isabel looking for the best ten lighted and decorated properties (commercial or residential). Property owners with the best lights and decorations will be given a winning ticket which they can redeem for their prize package at the Treasures of the Gulf Museum at 317 E. Railroad Ave. beginning on Tuesday, December 22. Look for the decorated, caroling Santa-Mobile in your neighborhood after 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15th!

Beautiful Lighted Christmas Boat Parade Winners and Photos!

23rd Annual Christmas Lighted Boat Parade finished up in style as participants made their way from the judging area at White Sands Restaurant and Marina in Port Isabel to bayside on South Padre Island at Louie Backyard. Great weather and clear skies made the perfect back drop for the fourteen vessels ranging from a kayak to 30 ft. and over commercial vessels decorated with all the holiday trimmings.

The Museums of Port Isabel will be hosting a variety of Christmas and Holiday events beginning with a \”Christmases of the Past Postcard\” display. On loan from the Brownsville Historical Association, “Christmases of the Past” will present popular images and scenes of the holiday season through antique postcards collected from members of the Rio Grande Valley community over the years. The display will be hung along the stairwell leading to the first and second floor of the Champion Building beginning on November 30, 2009 through January 4, 2010.

Take advantage of the Museums Gift Shop Holiday Sale from November 30th through December 19th. Visit gift shops at both the Treasures of the Gulf Museum and the Port Isabel Historic Museum to find something for that history or collectible buff.

On Wednesday, December 2, the museums of Port Isabel will host an open house so all visitors and art enthusiasts will be able to meet the artist of the Carola Art exhibition, Carol Plumb. The open house will run from 6:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. at the Treasures of the Gulf Museum. Open to the public. Wine and hors d’oeuvres. No admission.

Join the community for our Annual City of Port Isabel Tree Lighting and Christmas Celebration on Friday, December 4th at at 7:00 p.m. The City of Port Isabel will host its annual Tree Lighting and Christmas Celebration in front of the Historic Champions Building. Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church Chorus will perform traditional Christmas music and members of the community are invited to participate in Christmas caroling and Christmas karaoke. Children are invited to meet with Santa Claus, and youth of all ages can create their own unique Christmas cards. Both the Port Isabel Historical Museum and Treasures of the Gulf Museum will be decorated in holiday trimmings and open to the public for viewing. No admission.

The Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce will host the 23rd Annual Christmas Lighted Boat Parade. The Port Isabel Historical Museum and the Treasures of the Gulf Museum will be festively decorated for the holiday season on Friday, December 11th, for the Annual Museums of Port Isabel Christmas Open House. During normal operating hours, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the public is encouraged to view the Christmas displays. No admission.

Port Isabel Celebrates Veterans Day

Indalecio Lopez, American Legion Post 498 together with Port Isabel VFW Post 8791 presented a Veterans Day Program this morning at the Veterans\’ Park Walls of Honor.
Located on South Shore Drive, the new Veterans Park and great weather made for a perfect backdrop to the ceremony. The Port Isabel High School Band under the direction of Mr. Heartfield punctuated the presentation with several well executed patriotic songs. Kimberly Valdez sang \”The Star Spangled Banner\” and a POW poem written by Rudy H. Garcia was recited by the author.
Speakers included: Mayor Joe E. Vega, Port Isabel; Mayor Robert N. Pinkerton, South Padre Island; VFW Post 8791 Senior Vice Rafael Hinojosa and VFW Post 2035 Member Al Senteno. A presentation of one year membership with VFW Post 8791 by Commander Robert Vela recognized those new members including WWII veteran Cristin Martinez.
At 11:00 a.m. the flag was raised from half mast in honor of the live lost and sacrifices made at Ft. Hood last week. The program also featured a welcome address by Commander John Seymour, American Legion Pos\”>\” border=\”0\” alt=\”\” width=\”213\” height=\”320\” />t 498 and Commander Robert Vela VFW Post 8791, an invocation by Isaac Camacho, Post 498, the Pledge of Allegiance by Commander Robert Vela, Post 8791 and a P.O.W. and M.I.A. presentation by Kay MacMath and Rosa Chavez, American Legion Post 498 Ladies Auxiliary.
A 21 gun salute by the Port Isabel Police Department and an introduction of all those in attendance who served their country, the benediction by Isaac Camacho and a lunch invitation by Commander John Seymour, American Legion Post 498 closed out the ceremony.

–For Immediate Release–
The 23rd Annual Christmas Lighted Boat Parade is scheduled for Saturday, December 5 at 6:00 p.m. and promises to be the biggest and best yet.

The Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce invites boat owners, personal watercraft owners and kayakers or anything that floats to be a part of this special event. The parade will begin at the Port Isabel City Docks and vessels will be judged beginning at 6:00 p.m. The judging criteria will include: first impression; theme; and special effects. Winners will receive a variety of prizes donated by area merchants, including gift certificates, marine items, and much more. There is no charge to enter the parade.

Boats will be competing in six overall divisions: commercial; large power boats 23 feet and over; medium power boats 18 – 22 feet and under; small power boats 17 feet and under; large sailboats 26 feet and over; and small sailboats 25 feet and under. The U.S. Coast Guard will serve as lead vessel with Towboat U.S. bringing up the rear. Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony scheduled to be held Saturday, December 5.

The parade will begin immediately following judging at the White Sands Marina. It will continue to Anchor Marina and around to Pirate’s Landing and then circling to Sea Ranch II at Southpoint and Long Island Village. Weather permitting, the parade will continue to South Padre Island with optimum viewing at locations that include Louie’s, Amberjack’s, Wahoo and Fisherman’s Wharf. Ten bonus points will be awarded to vessels completing the route to Louie Backyard on South Padre Island.

Boat captains or their designated representatives are required to attend a meeting at the White Sands Restaurant at 4:00 pm on the day of the event. Boat numbers and last minute instructions will be given at that time. Boats will then rendezvous at the Port Isabel City Docks and surrounding areas by 5:30 p.m.
