Museums of Port Isabel hosts Mexican Revolution & Independence Exhibit

\” alt=\”\” width=\”300\” height=\”175\” />Museums of Port Isabel- On exhibit now through the winter of 2010, the Port Isabel Historic Museum will feature an exhibit of both Mexican Revolution and Mexican Independence images, artifacts and documents as part of their temporary exhibits. The Historic Museum is housed in the Champion Building on Railroad Ave.

Thursday, February 25th \”Telling Our Stories\” by Rod Bates kicked off the Museums\’ celebration of the Centennial of the Mexican Revolution and the Bicentennial of the Independence of Mexico. Bates illustrated the impact both wars had on Port Isabel and the Laguna Madre area with a variety of images and maps to a packed house in the theatre room in the Champion Building. The image above left, one used in the presentation, is an example of those taken during what came to be known as the Border Occupation. Taken in front of the Champion Building, this sepia toned image portrays three soldiers stationed in Point Isabel enjoying some leisure time.  The two boys to the left were local aquadores who delivered water to residences. Seated on their donkey is a soldier with a fresh box of cigars purchased in the Champion store. Images such as this one are part of the Mexican Revolution and Indpendence exhibits at the Museums of Port Isabel.
