Dear Chamber Members:
Spring has sprung and the strong southerly winds can testify to that fact. Spring Breakers and Winter Texans are on their way home and businesses are gearing up for Holy Week and Easter.
The Chamber office is busy preparing for our annual Awards Party. We encourage all of our members to attend as we honor the many individuals and businesses who have contributed so much to our success. For more information on this event, please see the related article in this newsletter.
We will also soon begin advertising sales for our 2010-2011 Visitors’ Guide, which has proven to be a tremendous success. We hope you will continue to support this project.
As always, we encourage you to contact our office with any suggestions or questions you might have about the services we provide to our membership. We look forward to hearing from you!

American Wind Symphony Orchestra Coming to Port Isabel
The American Wind Symphony Orchestra will make its third appearance in Port Isabel on May 21st.
The Port Isabel performances will launch the 53rd season of the floating orchestra and afford spectators the rare opportunity to hear performances by students from the Julliard School of Music. More than 4,000 people from across the Valley attended their last performance in 2007 and were treated to the sights and sounds of the open air band shell that unfolds upon its traveling barge.
The performance is sponsored by the El Paseo Arts Foundation and is under the direction of Conductor Robert Boudreau. According to El Paseo Board member Joann Evans, support for the event is being solicited from area businesses and individuals. Persons interested in contributing may contact El Paseo at 943-4700.
Annual Awards Party Set for April 16th
The Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Awards Party on Friday, April 16th.
Scheduled to be held from 5:30-7:30 pm at Black Jack’s Galley next to Pirates Landing, the banquet will feature heavy hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Live entertainment will be presented by Tom Wayne. There is no charge to attend the event.
“We’ve changed the format of our awards party to a more casual atmosphere and are inviting members to attend at no charge. In part, this change was implemented due to economic conditions in the area. But we also wanted a more fun and relaxed environment,” said Chamber President Betty Wells. “We hope our members will join us as we celebrate and honor the accomplishments so many of them have made to our community.”
For more information on the Awards Party, please contact the Chamber office at 9943-2262.
Merchants Committee Plans Block Party
The Port Isabel Merchants Committee has planned their first ever Block Party for Friday, April 23rd from 4-6 pm.
The event is the premier event in a series of Block Parties that will feature Chamber members within Port Isabel’s eight districts. The first is scheduled for the Lighthouse District and is open to businesspeople and visitors at no charge. Businesses within the District will be offering special promotions as well as providing refreshments. Live entertainment is also planned.
“The Merchants Committee plans to host at least two block parties a year,” said Chairwoman Linda Garrett. “Our mission is to promote local businesses and we think this is a wonderful opportunity for the business community to come together. It will also be a lot of fun.”
Businesses interested in participating are encouraged to attend the Merchants Committee meetings, which are held the second Wednesday of each month at 8:30 am at the Treasures of the Gulf Museum. For more Chamber office at 943-2262 or Linda Garrett at 943-8080.
