Channel District
The Channel District is represented by terra cotta. This rich color describes the familiar patina found on the waterfront. It takes its name from the channel that was dredged in the 1930s for the growing fishing and water recreation industry. The channel passes under Highway 100 and showcases tackle shops, gift shops, seafood restaurants, RV parks, motels and a wonderful view of the channel and coastal wildlife. Its icon, the Brown Pelican, was inspired by the painting of a pelican on the facade of the second floor of the Champion Building where the Port Isabel Historical Museum is housed. See map below for this channel’s boundary.
North: Turning Basin
South: Tarpon Field Area
East: Champion Avenue
West: South Shore Drive
