Port Isabel Mayor Calls for Voluntary Relocation

As of 3:30 p.m., Monday, Port Isabel Mayor Joe E. Vega calls for a Voluntary Relocation of the citizens of Port Isabel. A Manditory Relocation of high profile vehicles was also called for.

In the wake of meetings at Cameron County EOC meeting, it was determined that Port Isabel probability of impact from Tropical Storm Alex warranted a Voluntary Relocation and Manditory Relocation of high profile vehicles.

Port Isabel EOC opened this afternoon and is partially staffed. By 7:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, the EOC will be fully functional and fully staffed. Additionally, the City Commissioners’ Special Meeting called for Tuesday, June 29 at 6:00 p.m. will be cancelled due to Tropical Storm Alex.

Make sure your property is secure. Board windows and move outdoor furniture indoors. Make sure you have required medications, pets provided for, important papers and any other documents you may require before leaving the area.

Re-entry Hurricane Stickers are available at the Port Isabel City Hall (305 E. Maxan St.) until 5:00 p.m. and the Port Isabel Police Department (110 W. Hickman St.) after 5:00 p.m. If you have a Hurricane Sticker from 2008 or 2009 you do not need to renew. Sand bags are available at the Port Isabel Public Works Department (110 W. Hickman St.), five (5) bags per household or business. First come, first served basis only. The Port Isabel Public Works Department is not responsible for delivery of sand bags to residence or business. Sand bags will be available starting at 5:00 p.m. today (Monday) and resume at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow morning (Tuesday).
